Beach Umbrellas at Kiawah (mini pastel)

Beach Umbrellas at Kiawah     Pastel     2.5"x3.5"   Paula Campbell

This is a mini painting I did in pastel in a workshop with Karen Margulis. (karenmargulis.com) It's from a photo taken at Kiawah Island last summer. The photo was taken from the boardwalk over the grasses--all the beach umbrellas lined up and looking so cool and inviting. Kiawah is our family's favorite beach--we've been going there since the kids were little, and now we're enjoying taking our grandchildren there!  This mini is 2.5"x3.5", the size of an ATC, artist trading card, or ACEO, Artist Cards Editions Originals. These are collected by artists and art collectors. It's easy to find small frames for them at Hobby Lobby, World Market, Michael's, etc. And the mini paintings are quick and fun to do!

  1. Hi Paula, Thank-you for your sweet comment on my blog today. I'm sure I'll get over my doldrums eventually:0)
Your paintings are wonderful! Though I don't know how to paint that small as the one above. Very hard, IMHO!
Karen Margulis is a very good teacher. I am happy to own one of her pastels. My brother and family used to have a house on Kiaweh Island. We were all sad when he sold it!
    Happy painting to you!

  2. Thank you, Maryanne! I have so enjoyed seeing your work. And Karen is amazing--I've really enjoyed getting to know her. I haven't done much with my blog yet--lack of nerve and mostly lack of finished paintings! So it means a lot to have a complimentary post from an expert! :)
